Q & A with Philly Ryan, our Snr Football Captain

In advance of the  the first round of the GoAhead Dublin Senior 2 Football Championship in Russell Park against Ballyboughal on Saturday evening next we sat down with Philly Ryan, our club captain, to get to know him better, learn his top tips for juvenile players, and his diverse musical taste!!!
Favourite memory playing for St.Brigid’s at juvenile and adult level?
– The run we went on in 2011 which led to a DSF championship win. The buzz around the club that year was special.
Earliest GAA memory?
– Going to see Tipp v Clare in the Munster championship in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in 97 I think
Favourite thing about Gaelic Games off the pitch?
– Sitting outside the club in Russell Park with your teammates after winning a game on a Saturday evening

– Full Forward

– Croke Park
What’s your favourite memory watching Dublin GAA, Ladies and/or Men’s teams?
– Bernard Brogan goal v Cork 2010
If there was a transfer market in the Gaa what current player would you recruit for current players would be like Dublin to get in all codes?
– David Clifford / Vikki Wall
What International Sports star would make the best GAA player?
– Harry Kane
What 3 people, alive or dead, would you invite to a dinner party and why?
– Roy Keane, Taylor Swift and Anto Briody
What would you rule(s)would you like to introduce or amend to improve the GAA?
– Get rid of the marks – any rule that makes our games like the AFL is a bad one.
What are your hobbies and interests outside the GAA?
– Golf, Yoga
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received as a player?
– The player in the best position gets the ball
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received when you were young?
– Commitment is doing what you said you would, long after the mood you said it in has left you
What other sports have you played? Support any teams outside of the GAA?
– I dabbled in soccer but mostly gaelic games.
What’s your favourite memory of a coach from when you were a juvenile?
– We used to prank call Gerry McEntee after big championship wins – I think he knows about it.. he does now!
Favourite bit of advice to give to coaches helping at nursery or new to the GAA?
– They are here to have fun
Most important aspect of the GAA for kids to learn at an early age?
– Practice on their non-dominant side
