Megan Doran settling into St. Brigid’s

Over the past number of months you have probably met Megan Doran, our new GPO, around the club at the  nursery and the various camps in the club.

As Megan settles into her new role with us and we plan for the return of the nursey and juvenile games in September it’s probably a good time to get to know Megan better. She recently sat down for a quick Q&A

Favourite memory playing for St.Anne’s at juvenile and adult level?

Adult level – winning championship final 2023. Juvenile – Feile All Ireland finals.

Favourite thing about being a GPO?

Representing Female coaches and inspiring younger girls to play, also been that fun aspect to a child’s day when I arrive into schools.

Favourite position in GAA?

Centre back or wing back.

Favourite GAA ground?

Biased but nothing beats my home ground of St. Annes, the atmosphere when we have our flags up, the sun’s out and music on –  can’t beat it, even if our pitches have massive hills on them!  Stars of Erin for an away ground.

What would you rule(s)would you like to introduce or amend to improve the GAA?

If I could amend a rule in ladies football allow more physical, camogie would be optional to wear a skort.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received as a player?

Prepare for the worst, expect the best.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received as a GPO?

Power of 1!

What other sports have you played? 

Camogie and horse-riding.

What’s your favourite memory of a coach from when you were a juvenile?

My Mam been involved in all my juvenile playing years, from helping in training sessions to washing jerserys, to giving lifts, winning/ losing games etc.

Favourite bit of advice to give to coaches helping at nursey or new to the GAA?

Plan for things not to go to plan, Be creative, Learn your own coaching style.

Most important aspect of the GAA for kids to learn at an early age?

Early ages all about having fun, while we learn are hops, bounces & solos.
