Naomh Bríd opened their Inter 1 League campaign on Thursday evening with a comprehensive 3-10 to 0-5 win against Whitehall Colmcille.

Despite playing against a stiff breeze for the first 30, Naomh Bríd opened the scoring with a Jocelyn Hanks goal after 2 mins. With points from Mia Duignan & Hanks, the girls found themselves 1-2 to no score up after 5 minutes. Whitehall settled into the game with two scores, and after a good response from Naomh Bríd in a Deirdre McCarthy point,

Whitehall hit their purple patch and scored 3 unanswered points, leaving the minimum in the difference at half time, (1-3 to 0-05)

With the wind at their backs, Naomh Bríd sprung into the 2nd half. A Niamh McCarthy goal, along with another two points extended their lead to give some breathing space. However, Whitehall were relentless in their efforts.

With Rachel Boyle strong at full back, and goalkeeper Rachel O’Sullivan clearing anything that came her way, they struggled to penetrate. Hanks added another point, before a ‘45 from centre back Eimear O’Reilly dropped at the last second and found itself in the back of the net.

With momentum well & truly in their favour, the girls used the wind well, with Deirdre McCarthy impressive, delivering good quality balls into the full forward line. The scoring continued, with a long range effort by substitute Lucy Brady putting the icing on the cake, as they finished out with a 14 point victory.
