Eoin Kennedy's march to possible 10th Singles title continues 2015-09-27 12:33:00

Dublin's Eoin Kennedy has booked his place in his 14th Mens Open Final as he defeated Kilkenny legend Michael (Ducksy) Walsh 21-4, 21-17 in today's (Saturday 26th) Myclubshop.ie 60x30 All Ireland Semi Final in Abbeylara.

Kennedy was at his brilliant best in game 1 keeping Walsh to just 4 points through a combination of superb serving and cutting the ball off in mid court. Great coverage of the court, allied to clever passing shots and regular kills provided an easy first game victory.

Kennedy however was made to work for his victory in game 2 as Walsh rolled back the years and produced some fantastic handball. After his comfortable win in the first game, Kennedy dropped his concentration and Walsh took advantage with some terrific high lob serves and kills off the back wall. Behind 1-5, 7-11, 9-13 and 14-16 in the second game, Kennedy had to refocus and did so going from 14 to 20 in one hand. Twice Walsh took him out on game ball but Kennedy was not to be denied and finished out for a 21-4, 21-17 victory.

If Kennedy wins the final on October 10th he will have achieved a magical 10th title.

Kennedy will face either Westmeath's Robbie McCarthy or Tipperary's Ger Coonan who face off in the other semi final next week.

Before doing so however, Kennedy will partner St Brigid’s Carl Browne next Saturday (again at the Abbeylara venue) as they do battle with Mayo’s Dessie Keegan and Joe McCann in the Doubles semi-final.
