AHL4 Claim dramatic win over Faughs 2015-03-29 12:44:00

Our AHL4 Hurlers claimed their second one point win of the season in the most dramatic of circumstances on Sunday afternoon against Faughs in Russell Park.

Played in tough conditions for hurling, the heavy and wet pitch certainly did not contribute to a memorable spectacle but it did create a closely fought battle from beginning to end.

The home side start brighter and looked in control as they led 0-05 to no score following early points from Seanie Keegan, Keith Morris (0-03) and Badger O Halloran. However, two quick-fire Faughs goals gave the visitors a surprise advantage after 25 minutes. The concluding two points of the half from Keegan and Morris left the half time score 0-07 to 2-01.

The second half would follow a similar pattern with both sides trading scores. The accuracy of Keith Morris from placed balls was crucial for the home side, with Eoin Thynne winning 3 close range frees following fine runs. With 10 minutes remaining Faughs made a push for home and had moved two points clear as the game entered injury time.

Spurred on by a fine performance from Willie Zorro Tyrell at full back, the home side pushed forward one final time and following superb work by Dave Kennedy, wing forward Fergal Counihan rose highest on the edge of the square to field and kick the sliotar to the net off the left hand post.

The final whistle sounded immediately after the keeper’s puck out and concluded with Brigids in front by the narrowest of margins, 1-09 to 2-05.

Well done to Donal, Mickey and the lads on another fine league win.
