U13 Girls Footballers battle past Na Fianna 2015-03-21 09:53:00

Division 5N  - St Brigids 2-2, Na Fianna 1-3
St Brigids U13 girls had a hard fought win to take them 3 from 3 in the league.  They continued their fine run of form by beating Na Fianna at Russell Park by 2-2 to 1-3.
Ella Mansfield had a terrific game in defence, aided by Ruth Hanley, Ellie Raftery and Tara Coffey.
St Brigids piled on the pressure in the first half and could have been out of sight by half time if all their wides had been converted. Playing up hill, they pinned Na Fianna in their own half for most of the first 30 minutes and at half time, the match was poised at 1-1 each.
Brigids fought hard in the second half but couldn’t convert their chances. Amy Lawless and Dara Loomes came close but it wasn’t until the last few minutes that Emma McGrath latched onto a loose ball in the Na Fianna box and managed to squeeze it past the keeper and into the net.
Ronan Coffey lost his voice at this stage and the modest crowd went mad. The Final whistle blew and Brigids had secured their 3rd league victory.
Grace Maher played very well in goal, Caoimhe O’Reilly worked tirelessly in midfield, as did Eliie Raftery.  Grace O’Farrell and Mia Malone worked hard in the forwards as well.
Girl of the match – Ava Duignan – Ava battled all morning and made valuable ground with some great tackling.
