Winters Hat-Trick Sees Senior Hurlers into Championship Quarter Finals

A brilliant 3-06 haul Paul Winters saw St Brigids Senior Hurlers progress into the last 8 of the Dublin Senior Hurling Championship as they powered past Na Fianna, 5-14 to 1-14 on Sunday morning in Blakestown. Na Fianna started brightest with the games two opening scorers before Winters claimed two well taken goals to leave the sides level at the break 0-11 to 2-05.

However, while the first half was evenly contested, there was only going to be one winner as Brigids totally dismantled their Glesnevin opponents in the second period. Further goals from John O Loughlin, Daire Plunkett and Winters, who completed his hat-trick, saw the Russell Park side in total control by the 50th minute. Winters also added a further six points to his own personal tally from frees and from play, while Sean Brady and Brendan McEnerney produced stellar performance in defence particularly in the second half. The result means Brigids top their group ahead of 2012 winners Kilmacud Crokes as they lie in wait for the quarter final draw.
