Stunning Performance See's AHL5 Hurlers Past Clontarf in League 2013-09-09 15:49:00

AHL 5 - Clontarf 0-08 St Brigids 2-13

A stunning performance from our AHL 5 Hurlers saw them take one step closer to a potential league title after they overcame Championship finalists Clontarf 2-13 to 0-08 in St Annes Pk on Sunday morning.

The visitors led from start to finish and after an early JP Costigan goal was followed up by points from Seamus Lynam (0-02) and Conor Morris (0-01) the lads held a commanding advantage by the midpoint of the first half. Clontarf added 3 converted frees to the scoreboard before a Kieran O Sullivan (above) penalty stretched Brigids led to 2-07 to 0-04 at the break.

Playing against the elements in the second half, Clontarf begin to pill forward but with goalkeeper Kieran Cahill and his full back line of Hanley, Markey and Tyrell in brilliant form the goals they desperately required never came. Brendan Lyng, Stephen Moore, and Macdara Butler worked tirelessly in the middle third to stem the pressure further and when Keith Morris angled over a brilliant long range score to extend the lead to 10, Clontarf knew the game was up.

Well done to Mickey, Albert and the lads who now need to win one of their two remaining games to win the league. They face Ballinteer on Sunday week in Russell Pk in their next game.
