Brilliant Butler to the Fore as Inter Hurlers Remain Top

AHL 5 - St Maurs 1-09 St Brigids 1-13
A brilliant all round team performance, led by a stunning individual
performance by Macdara Butler, saw St Brigids Inter Hurlers claim a
vital win over St Maurs in their quest for league honours on Sunday
morning in Rush. In what was a first versus second encounter, the
visitors begin the brighter of the two sides with Brendan Lyng scoring
two fine points inside the opening 10 minutes. The sides traded scores
before a beautifully weighted handpass from Keith Morris sent corner
forward Eoin O Brien through on goal who gleefully hammered the sliotar
to the bag of the net.
O Briens score saw Brigids take the lead, one they would not
relinquish for the remainder of the game. Further points from Karl
Rogers and Butler saw the visitors in the ascendancy 1-08 to 0-04 at the
break.
The inevitable Maurs revival came in the second half and when they
goaled with 10 minutes remaining the gap was down to three points. Not
to be outdone, Brigids replied in style as points from Eoin Thynne, Lyng
and an outrageous Butler point on the run from the sideline gave
Brigids their insurance point. With goalkeeper Kieran Cahill and centre
back Damien Fitzsimmons playing like men possessed, Brigids held firm to
claim two vital league points and now remain top of AHL5.
The lads now have a break until the end of August, when they will face O Tooles at home.
