Inter Hurlers Battle Back to Edge Past Plunketts 2013-04-07 12:18:00

AHL 5 - St. Brigids 0-14 St. Oliver Plunketts ER 2-06

Our Inter hurlers got their league campaign off to a winning start in Russell Park on Sunday morning as they fought back in the second period to beat local rivals St Oliver Plunketts. The visitors started the better and goaled mid way through the half but fine scores from Keith Morris and Brendan Lyng kept the score board ticking over, before a second Plunketts goal with the final action of the half saw the lads trail by five at half time.

Undeterred, the home side would go on to dominate the second half led in part by the excellent free taking of Kieran O Sullivan before points from Brian Mulcahy and Willie Madden edged the home side in front. The final few minutes saw some stout defending with Cormac O Meara, Glen Markey and goalkeeper Ciaran Cahill keeping Plunketts at bay with several vital blocks.

A special mention to Willie Tyrell who was outstanding throughout and sustained a nasty bang in the dying minutes. Well done to the new management team of Albert O Reilly and Mickey O Sullivan, as the old seanfhocail goes "Tus maith leath na hoibre"! Next up for the lads is their Championship opener in 2 weeks time.
