AHL 2 - Naomh Mearnog 1-11 St Brigids 2-12
Our Senior Hurlers got their Division 2 campaign underway in Portmarnock with a good victory over Naomh Mearnog on Sunday morning. Ger Ryans men took a few minutes to get to grips with the slippery conditions but took the lead midway through the first half, a lead they wouldnt relinquish. Early frees from Kieran O Sullivan settled the team and Daire Plunketts long range effort established the lead.
Brigids looked the more competent side and lovely work from Cathal
Doyle led to the score of the match for brother Dara. Plunketts
speculative long range effort somehow found its way into the Mearnog net
and the lads led by 1-6 to 0-8 at half time.
The second half saw Brigids distance themselves from Mearnogs with
scores coming from Conor Morris, Brendan Lyng and Kieran O Sullivan. O
Sullivans brilliantly finished goal with 10 minutes left ended the game
as a contest effectively, with Mearnogs finding a late consolation goal
to even up the scoreboard somewhat. The match ended 2-11 to 1-10 to
Brigids. Next up is St Finbarrs at home on the 30th of March.
