Inter Hurlers Making Winning Start to Life in AHL 4 2014-03-07 20:48:00

AHL 4 St Brigids 0-15 Lucan 2-08

Our newly promoted AHL4 Hurlers got their 2014 season of to the perfect start on Wednesday evening when they defeated last seasons Junior A Championship finalists Lucan Starsfields 0-15 to 2-08 in Russell Park.

The foundations for the win were laid in the opening period when a barrage of scoring, led by the half forward line and midfielders of the home side, caught Lucan unprepared. Seven unanswered points from Micky McDonnell, Keith Fox, Kieran O Sullivan and Brendan Lyng saw Brigids race into a 0-11 to 0-02 led just before half time. However, in the final minute of the half Lucan grabbed a lifeline as a well taken goal saw the visitors reduce the margin to six at the internal.

Now with the wind in their favour Lucan began to show their early promise and began to gradually eat into the Brigids led. Points from O Sullivan and Butler kept the Brigids scoreboard ticking over but when Lucan claimed their second goal with 7 minutes left to reduce the led to three things looked ominous for the home side. However, substitutes Costigan and Madden managed to win some crucial late breaking ball in a dramatic concluding finale, as Mickey O Sullivans men just managed to hold out for the narrowest of wins.

Well done to our three adult hurling teams who all won their opening AHL league games, next round of games is the weekend of March 30th.
