Senior Hurlers Cruise Past Finbarrs Challenge in AHL 2 2014-04-01 20:45:00

AHL 2 St Brigids 1-26 Naomh Fionnbarra 0-08

Our Senior Hurlers made it two from two in their league campaign in Russell Park on Sunday morning with a comprehensive win over Naomh Fionnbarra. The lads put on an exhibition of point taking with Paul Winters and Dara Doyle to the fore from start to finish.

Brigids began the game at great speed and their movement of the sliothar from back to front made it extremely difficult for Finbarrs to settle. Diara Plunkett hit Brigids first from play, and this was quickly followed by scores from Winters (0-2) and Pat Rohan.

A nice exchange between Dara Doyle and Conor Morris led to Doyle firing over a sweet point to leave the lads up 0-13 to 0-6 at half time.

The second half continued in the same vein for Ger Ryans men as more good point taking from Winters, Ciaran Dolan and Kieran O Sullivan stretched the lead for the home side. Finbarrs were reduced to 14 men shortly after the restart and this essentially ended the game as a contest as Brendan McInerney played the free man role expertly.

Kieran Cahill marshalled the defence expertly and kept the Finbarrs attack at bay for the remainder of the game. David Smyth got the Brigids goal as Dolan, Doyle and Winters continued to exploit the space provided by the extra man.

Aodhan McInerney had a fine game at center back for the hosts as they eventually ran out 1-26 to 0-8 point winners on the day. The lads face Whitehall away next on Saturday evening as they continue their preparations for championship.

The club would like to wish Conor Ryan a speedy recovery after he suffered a bad injury in this match.
