St Brigids 2-14 Craobh Chiarain 1-11

St Brigids Intermediate Hurlers claimed their second league win from three games on Saturday evening when they overcame Craobh Chiarain 2-14 to 1-11 in Russell Park in AHL 4. Playing against a stiff breeze in the opening half, the home side struggled to get into the game as Craobh opened up a 0-06 to 0-01 lead with some fine long distance shooting. However, as the Brigids midfield gradually began to take control of the middle third, the momentum of the game had started to change as Alan Thynne batted a high ball to the Craobh net. A Badger O Halloran point drew Brigids closer still before a second goal from Eoin Thynne gave the home side the lead for the first time in the game as the half time whistle blew, 2-03 to 0-08.

Brigids began the second half as they finished the first with midfielder Stephen Moore scoring an inspirational point, fielding a high puck out from Kieran Cahill before turning and striking a huge effort over the bar from the half way line. The talismanic Macdara Butler was immaculate from placed balls, scoring 2 65s in quick succession to stretch the Brigids lead. Craobh remained in touch with two frees of their own while a 21 yard free, blasted to net Anthony Nash style, kept the visitors in touching distance right up until the final whistle. Brigids would not be denied however, as Butler and Morris points sealed a fine win for the home side.
