Early Goals Edge Senior Hurlers Past Whitehall to Make it 3from3 2014-04-08 20:42:00

Whitehall 1-11 St Brigids 2-13

Our Senior Hurlers continued their 100% start to the season with a hard fought victory away to Whitehall Comcilles on Saturday evening in Cloghran. The lads made it 3 wins on the bounce as first half goals from Paul Winters and Ciaran Dolan proved vital.

Playing with a strong wind in the first half, Brigids built an early lead with points from Winters, Conor Morris and Brendan Lyng. Good build up play from Conor Woodgate and Pat Rohan left Paul Winters through on goal and the Dublin Senior panelist made no mistake with a fine finish to the top corner. Ciaran Dolan pounced on a breaking ball shortly afterwards and galloped through the Whitehall defence to bury a second goal.

The lads left the pitch at half time with a commanding 2-7 to 0-4 point lead. Brigids were guilty of taking their foot off the gas somewhat in the second half as Whitehall hit point after point to narrow the lead. Strong defending from Michael Cussen, Brendan and Aodhan McInerney helped stem the flow as Paul Winters and Ruari Dunbar scored a pair of long distance points.

Whitehall eventually broke down the Brigids defence to register a goal but points from Lyng and Winters helped see the lads over the line with a final score of 2-13 to 1-11.

All attention now turns to O Tooles in the first round robin game of Championship in 3 weeks time.
