Devitt Goal Seals Cup Win for Junior Ladies Footballers 2014-06-05 20:20:00

Adult Ladies Football Cup Division 5

St Brigids 2-09 Na Fianna 0-05

After a disappointing Championship run our Junior Ladies Footballers were eager to get back to winning ways in their cup game against Na Fianna in Collinstown Lane on Wednesday evening.

Our girls started well with 2 early points from Jacklyn Kilmurry, putting them into an early lead. A dominant performance from the Brigids midfield, controlled by Clodagh Rodgers and Marissa Brice, ensured that the girls would maintain their advantage and were in front 0-05 0-03 at the break.

The second half began with Na Fianna gaining possession and the home side soon reduced the deficit to a single point. But, thereafter followed a commanding display from the Russell Park girls, who would go on to outscore their opponents 2-04 to 0-01 in the final 20 minutes.

Aided by a superb defensive display and goalkeeping performance from Grace Dunne, who cleared her line on more than one occasion, the Brigids pressure began to build. A blistering goal from Emma Devitt put the visitors in control and by the full time whistle our girls won out on a scoreline of 2-09 to 0-05. Well done to Ken and the girls on a great win. It has been a difficult season so far for the girls, with a number of key players unavailable due to work, injury and other commitments.
