Trinity Gaels 2-13 St Brigids 1-16

Our intermediate hurlers came back from the dead on a couple of occasions to force a draw against a very experienced Trinity Gaels team on Saturday evening last in their scenic Drumnigh grounds. Brigids were first to score in the opening stages with a Keith Morris free. However Trinity Gaels followed up with the next 5 points to lead 5 points to 1 point half way through the first half. Brigids responded well to this replying with with 6 points on the trot from no fewer than 6 different players. However just before half Martin McInerney goaled for Trinity Gaels following good link up play with his brother Eamon.  Brigids were slightly unsettled halfway through the first half due to the loss of centre back Damien Fitzsimons to injury. At half time Brigids trailed 0-8 to 1-6.

The second half was a helter skelter affair. The game flowed from end to end on a very hot evening, no fewer than 5 times were the teams level. The accuracy of the Trinity Gaels free taker was unerring throughout scoring no fewer than all of his 8 placed balls. Halfway through the second half Trinity were awarded a deserved penalty which goalkeeper Tadhg Branigan saved brilliantly but however the resulting scramble saw the ball somehow wander over the line. From the resulting puckout Brigids worked the ball well up the field for Brendan O?Halloran to finish to the net brilliantly, so again the teams were level.  However with 5 minutes to go Trinity Gaels went 3 ahead again but 3 points from Eoin Thynne, JP Costigan and Keith Morris saw the affair level again. However once again Trinity went ahead again but in the dying seconds Keith Fox levelled the game to give the teams a share of the spoils.

Next up for Donal Doherty & Mick O?Sullivan?s men St. Vincent?s away in the championship on Tuesday July 1st. Well done to all involved.
