O Loughlin to the Fore as Hurlers Set Up Exciting League Climax 2014-08-19 19:16:00

St Brigids 1-21 Raheny 1-08

Saturday evening saw our Senior hurlers pick up another win in their AHL2 campaign, beating Raheny comfortably 1-21 to 1-08 in Russell Park. The first half saw the Brigids defenders gain control early on with Mick Cussen in particular, excelling. This dominance provided a platform for John O Loughlin and Paul Winters to get the scoreboard moving in the right direction. Dara Doyle and Daire Plunkett also gained the upper hand around the middle of the park and contributed to the Brigids scorecard.

Some slick interplay from Paddy McAvinue and Paul Winters led to the score of the half from O Loughlin who would eventually finish with a personal haul of 1-08. Not a bad evenings work. With the half time score standing at 0-10 to 0-4, Brigids looked to close out the match early in the second half and their point taking proved decisive in the second half. Kieran O Sullivan took to the nets in the second half replacing the injured Alan Nolan, but he was powerless to stop Rahenys goal towards the end of the half.

John O Loughlin got the goal for Brigids after an assist from Aodhan McInerney to kill the match as a contest. Brendan Lyng came on to great effect with 15 minutes to play and slotted over 3 points from play from centre forward.

The match ended with Brigids the victors on a scoreline of 1-21 to 1-08. The lads now face Crumlin on August 30th in Pearse Park with the winner taking a huge step towards automatic promotion to AHL1 next year.
