Senior Camogie Team Claim Senior Championship 2012-09-30 16:25:00

Naomh Bríd 4 - 4  Naomh Uinsionn 2 - 6

A hugely competitive game was highlighted by some cracking goals.  In a five minutes spell before half-time, the fine attendance was treated to three of the best.  With the game finely balanced on 0-2 apiece Naomh Bríd seemed to strike two decisive blows when Niamh Adams cracked home a fine goal in the 22nd minute to be followed three minutes later by a sweet stroke off her left side by Michelle Tierney.  But three minutes from the half-time whistle Naomh Uinsionn captain Ursula Hussey sent a rasper to the net to leave her side trailing by just three points 2-2 to 1-2 at the break.

One minute into the second period that advantage had vanished when half-time substitute Mary Cronin capitalised on a defensive error to level the match for the Marino girls.  However Katie Murphy was giving  towering performance at midfield for the Blanchardstown girls and following a well-timed pass by Elaine Duncan she restored Naomh Bríd's lead with an excellent point.  Asia-bound Sherry Mannion (along with excellent half back Ann Kirwan) made it two points in the 36th minute before Sarah Murray cut to gap to a point for Naomh Uinsionn.

But Naomh Bríd always looked the more likely to get goals once the worked the ball into their full-forward line and following more good work by Katie Murphy Aisling Kelly was on hand to strike a fabulous goal.

Patrice Ryan of Naomh Uinsionn kept her team very much in the game with a fine point to leave just a single score between the sides going into the final 5 minutes of normal time.  Two minutes later Vincents were awarded a free some 35m from Naomh Bríd's goal.  Ursula Hussey's well struck shot looked like it might sneak under the bar but Collette Coady brought off a great save albeit that Elaine O'Leary drove over another fine point.

With the game precariously balanced, Naomh Bríd clinched victory in the 60th minute when Christine Norton first-timed to the net to give the Russell Park outfit their first Senior 2 Championship title.
