Minor A Hurlers Battle Past Fingallians 2015-02-24 14:11:00

MHL1 - St Brigids 1-12 Fingallians 2-07

This was a game played in horrible conditions in Russell Park on Sunday morning. Fingallians played wind assisted in the first half and got off to great start scoring 1-01 early in the game. St Brigids did not panic and fought back well to bring the game level 0-05 to 1-02 with some excellent free taking from Eoghan Dunne against the ever strengthening wind. Then came the score of the game, a brilliant move which saw Mark Donnelly initially win dirty ball around the middle of the field, he then passed to Johnny McGuirk who broke forward, the ball was put across the Fingallians goalmouth where Tiernan McGlynn pounced to bury the ball in the net. This settled Brigids right into the game and they went in at half time deservedly 2pts up on a score line of 1-07 to 1-05.

The second half began brightly for Brigids now playing with the strong wind in their backs, a massive Cian O Sullivan free from well inside his own half stretched Brigids lead to four points. O Sullivan then scored a superb point from a sideline cut. Fingallians however did not give up without a fight a scored direct from 20 meter free in the closing minutes to make for a nerve tingling end. Brigids held out and went to win by 2pts on a score line of 1-12 to 2-07.

This was a real workman like performance from St Brigids on a day that was never going to be conducive to open hurling. Ciaran Breslin, Tadhg O Shea, Cian O Sullivan, Johnny McGuirk, Eoghan Dunne and Brian Beano Moran  were the outstanding players for Brigids on a day when the whole panel put their shoulders to the wheel.
