Rocket O Reilly fires Junior Hurlers to League win over Setanta 2012-07-21 15:27:00

Setanta 2-12  St Brigids 3-11

Our Junior Hurlers survived a frantic finish against Setanta in Ballymun on Thursday evening to maintain their 100% record in AHL8 as their quest for promotion and league honours continued.Though the home side drew first blood with two early scores, it was the Blanchardstown men that struck next when a long ball in from James O Reilly caught the Setanta defence napping and Ciaran Rocket O Reilly was on hand to finish the ball to the net. Noel Kidd followed up with a goal shortly after and Neill Plunkett, John Cussen and James O Reilly all added scores before the Rocket was on hand again to grab his second goal of the game and leave the lads in a commanding position approaching the interval.

To their credit Setanta continued to battle and grabbed a handful of points to leave the gap at 3-07 to 0-07 at the break. The half-time team talk seemed to have spur on the Ballymun men as they began the second half at a ferocious pace and tapped over early scores to narrow the gap slightly to seven points. It wasn?t long before the pressure began to tell in the Brigids defence and the Setanta corner forward pounced on a rebound after Tim O Leary saved the first effort to grab Setantas first goal of the evening. This woke Brigids from their slumber, and spurred on by Mossie Sweeney, David Grogan and James O Reilly in particular the Brigids men gathered a foothold in the second half and Neill Plunkett (f), Noel Kidd and the Rocket again all added scores as it appeared Brigids had done enough to see this game out.

But this game had more turns than Spin the Bottle and Setanta added two more points before the full forward gathered possession at the back post to blast the ball to the net, sending the home crowd into raptures and leave the Blanchardstown men hanging on. The game was delicately poised with just one point between the sides as play entered stoppage time. Noel Kidd added the insurance point after Trojan work by James O?Reilly again, and the Setanta men couldn?t find that crucial third goal thanks to majestic defending from Phil Kelly and Eoin Ozzie Mulvihill.

The lads now face Parnells on Sunday 22nd July at 10:30am in Russell Park. Get down and support the lads as their push for promotion continues!
