Strong Second Half Powers Senior Hurlers 2012-07-24 15:26:00

Our Senior Hurlers recorded their second AHL 1 win in four days, following up their excellent win over Cuala on Wednesday with a nine point victory over Naomh Mearnog in Portmarnock on Saturday evening. The sides were level at the break, 0-08 to 1-05, with Mearnogs early goal looking likely to be the games crucial score. However, the Portmarnock men would only add 3 further points to their tally after the interval thanks to superb defending from Karl Rogers and Aidan O Leary in particular. It wasnt long before Brigids took total control of the game as veteran full-forward Stephen Callinan (above) goaled within minutes of the restart. Excellent points from Daire Plunkett, Dara Doyle and Paddy McAvinue (from places balls and from play) extended Brigids led to nine at the full time whistle, 1-17 to 1-08.

Taking the other weekend results in AHL 1 into the equation, the lads Division 1 status is not yet guaranteed, but the outcome remains very much in their own hands with one round of games remaining. If they can overcome Faughs in their final game, they will remain in AHL 1 for another season, regardless of other results. A date for this game is yet to be confirmed but it will be sometime after the two week summer break.
