Snakey Mulcahy bags decisive hat-trick in Inter Hurlers league 2012-07-20 15:22:00

O Tooles 1-11 St Brigids 3-08

A poachers hat-trick from corner forward Brian Mulcahy was the deciding factor as our Inter Hurlers overcame O Tooles in AHL 5 last Sunday in Blunden Drive. Early points from midfielder Mick Galvin (2) and Diarmuid O Mahony gave the visitors an early advantage before Mulcahy swatted home his first goal from the edge of the square. Brigids built on their early advantage with a 65 from goalkeeper Willie Bourke before a late 1-03 without reply saw O Tooles claim a 1-06 to 1-04 half time lead.

Undeterred, Brigids regained the lead inside the opening moments of the second half when Mulcahy snaked his way in behind the full-back to flick a Stephen Moore delivery to the net. Mulcahy repeated the feat minutes later, giving Brigids a lead they looked certain to hold onto. But O Tooles rallied and had the gap down to 3 with only 5 minutes remaining before Willie Bourke, reeling back the years, produced a miraculous diving save down low to his right to keep Brigids ahead. Desperate last gasp defending from Damo Fitzsimmons, Stephen Kelly and Willa Corbett saw the lads edge over the line to claim 2 important league points.
