St Brigids 3-15 Cuala 1-10
Our Senior Hurlers claimed 2 vital points in their battle to maintain
their AHL 1 status on Wednesday evening as they produced a sterling
performance to defeat high flying Cuala 3-15 to 1-10 in Russell Park. A
blistering opening 10 minutes set the tone for the evening as goals from
Dara Doyle and Cian O Mahony gave Ger Ryans men a dream start. Further
points from Pat Rohan and Doyle stretched the Brigids lead to eight at
half time, 2-09 to 0-08.
Cuala, lying second in the Division 1 table, inevitably fought back
after the break reducing the deficit to four point?s midway through the
half but committed defending from Aidan O Leary and Conor Ryan ensured
that Cuala would not get any closer. Two excellent points from Ciaran
Kellet restored Brigids superiority and when Dublin Minor Paul Winters
outpaced his marker to fire to the net Cuala knew their race was run.
While the win was crucial, it does not guarantee the lads their AHL 1
status as they must travel to Portmarnock on Saturday evening to take
on a dodged Naomh Mearnog, a side also looking to retain their place in
AHL 1 for next season. The game throws in at 6.15. All support for the
lads is greatly appreciated.
