Winters goal sets Dublin minors on road to victory 2012-06-24 15:12:00

Dublins minor hurlers kept the dreams of retaining the Leinster MHC title very much alive with a well-deserved five-point victory over Kilkenny at O?Moore Park, Portlaoise on Sunday afternoon.
Shay Bolands side recovered from a slow start to fully merit their place in the provincial final with Paul Winters stunning 22nd minute goal the catalyst for victory as the boys in blue concluded the opening half on the up to lead 1-5 to 0-4 at the break.

The early signs for the Dubs were less encouraging. Three points (including one free and one 65) from Conor Martin had the Cats 0-3 to 0-0 in front after 14 minutes - it could have been worse but for an excellent penalty save from Cian Mac Gabhann in the 13th minute when he denied Martin.
Dublin eventually opened their account with a superb Cormac Costello point in the 16th minute and three minutes later wing-back Sean McClelland split the posts as the Dubs began to build a bit of momentum.
The crucial goal arrived in the 22nd minute when Winters brilliantly flicked overhead to the net to catapult his side into a 1-2 to 0-3 lead.
Winters added two frees, the second from halfway, to bolster Dublin?s lead before grabbing one from play following some excellent defensive work by the impressive Shane Barrett.
So from trailing by three points the Dubs turned it around to lead 1-5 to 0-3 by the 27th minute before Martin added his fourth point to reduce the half-time arrears.
A minute into the second half Costello added the second of his three stylish points as Dublin moved five points clear.
They lost their way for a while before the midpoint of the second half as Kilkenny got back to within two points in the 41st minute (1-7 to 0-8) but settled again to run out winners despite the sending off of Caolan Conway (second yellow) in injury-time.
