Senior Hurlers Just Edged Out by St Judes in Champo Group Opener 2012-04-30 12:57:00

St Brigids 1-9 St Judes 1-10

There is rarely much between these two sides and yesterday was no different. The game was played in very windy conidtions. Judes had the gale at their backs in the opening period. It was very evenly matched midway through the half with Judes leading 0-4 to 0-2. Our defence was coping well with the pressure being applied. Paddy McAvinue and Daire Plunkett were keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

Judes began to gain a foothold around the middle third and stretched their lead to 0-6 to 0-2 before another Paddy Mc point narrowed the gap. Judes fired over three more points to lead 0-9 to 0-4 at the break.

With the wind at their backs in the second half, the opening minutes were always going to be crucial. Conor Ryan set the tone with a point within a minute of the restart. Judes weren't to be detered as they responded with a point. Further points from John O'Loughin and Paddy Mc reduced the deficit to 0-10 to 0-7 but Judes struck for goal on the 40 minute mark. This was to be their last score of the game.

Trailing by 6, the lads kept battling and soon had the deficit down to a single point with less than 5 minutes remaining. Daire Plunkett finishing brilliantly to the net and a high delivery by Alan Nolan. Unfortunately time just ran out for the lads as they just couldn't find the equalising score. Next up is Crumlin on Friday week in Parnell Pk.
