Senior Hurlers guarantee AHL 1 status after thrilling two point win over Faughs
AHL 1 - St Brigids 1-17 Faughs 2-12
Our Senior Hurlers recorded their third successive AHL 1 victory and in the process guaranteed their Division 1 status for next season after a thrilling two point victory over Faughs in Russell Park on Saturday evening. With club coach John O Loughlin back on the edge of the square after his Championship exploits with Laois, the Russell Park men looked the more balanced outfit as the full forward line amassed an impressive 1-07 over the 60 minutes.
Leading by 7 at half time Brigids were grateful to goalkeeper Alan Nolan who pulled off four miraculous saves to keep the home side ahead. Faughs did reduce the gap to two late in the game only for Cathal Doyle, David Smyth and substitute Paddy McAvinue to steer Ger Ryans men over the line.
Next up for the lads in the Championship last 16 tie V St Judes, with the winners facing Kilmacud Crokes in the last 8. Times and Dates TBC.
