Naomh BrĂd, Cuid a hAon, Seachtain na Gaelige Q&A   17/03/2021

Naomh Bríd  - La Fhéile Pádraig agus Seachtain na Gaelige 2021

To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and Seachtain na Gaeilge St. Brigid’s clubman Jack Chambers, Minister for Sport and the Gaeltacht, did a Questions and Answers session with some of our juvenile club members as Gaeilge

Sin cuid a haon don díospóireacht, féach chomh maith ar cuid a dó agus féach ar an video Twitter, Instagram agus Facebook

1. Caoilinn U11 Girls:  Conas a cheiliúrann tú La Fhéile Pádraig? How are you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day?

Beidh mé ag caitheamh dath glas, tá sin cinnte. Beidh La Fhéile Pádraig an-éagsúil i mbliana, ach níor chóir go gcoimeádfadh sin ón gceiliúradh muid. Cé nach mbeidh aon pharáid, tá an t-uafás de chláir iontacha ar RTÉ mar chuid de Fhéile Lae Phádraig, is, mar sin, beidh mé ag breathnú orthu seo. Is deis é, fosta, breith suas ar roinnt den obair dháilcheantair agus aireachta.

I’ll be wearing green, that’s for sure! St. Patrick’s Day will be very different this year, but that shouldn’t stop us from celebrating. Although there will be no parade, there are loads of great programmes on RTE as part of the St Patrick’s day festival, so I’ll be tuning in to those! It’s also a chance to catch up on some constituency and ministerial work so I’ll be doing a bit of reading and taking it easy.

2. Fionn U9 Boys: An cuimhin leat do chéad cluiche a d’imir tú le Naomh Brid? Do you remember your first game with St. Brigid’s?

Ceapaim go raibh mo chéad cluiche in aghaidh Naomh Uinsionn ach nílim cinnte. Is cuimhin liom mo chéad bhabhta traenála do Chlub Naomh Bríd thíos ag Páirc na Feá agus ba iad Gerry McEntee, Liam Plunkett, Martin Kennedy agus Paddy Winters mo bhainisteoirí, is bhí sárfhoireann againn ar feadh an méid sin de bhlianta. Is cuimhin liom fosta bheith ag imirt le scoil Naomh Bríd le Kevin Doyle is Tony Hegarty mar bhainisteoirí, is bhí cluichí iontacha againn ,ag sroicheadh chraobhchluiche Chumann na mBunscoileanna i bPáirc an Chrócaigh , cluiche a chaill muid ar an drochuair.

I can’t remember my first game but I think it was against St. Vincent’s. I can remember my first training session for St. Brigid’s down in Beechpark and my managers were Gerry Mcentee, Liam Plunkett, Martin Kennedy and Paddy Winters. All were involved from the start and we had a great team for so many years. I also remember playing with St. Brigid’s school with Kevin Doyle and Tony Hegarty as the managers and we had some great games including getting to the Cumann na bhunscoil final in Croke Park where we unfortunately lost.

3. Chloe U11 Girls: Cén cluiche is fearr leat, iománaíocht ná peile? /Which do you prefer, Hurling or Football?

Ní fhéadfainn rogha a dhéanamh eatarthu. Is aoibhinn liom bheith ag breathnú ar iománaíocht ,arb é an cluiche is mó scile ar domhan, is dócha, agus thaitin sé liom a bheith ag imirt caide agus mé ag fás aníos. I ndeireadh báire, áfach, mar Bhaile Átha Cliathach, caithim peil a roghnú. As Maigh Eo mo bheirt thuismitheoirí; mar sin, mar chontae gan aon iomáint, ag fás suas tugadh uchtach dom peil a imirt.

I couldn’t choose between them! I love watching Hurling, which is probably the most skilful game in the world, and I loved playing football growing up. At the end of the day, though, as a Dub, I have to say football! My parents are both from Mayo so as a county without hurling I was encouraged to play football growing up.

4. Daire U10 Boys: Cad ndeachaigh tú ar do laetha saoire in Eirinn nuair a bhí tú og? Where did you go on your holidays in Ireland when you were young?

Théinn rialta go Maigh Eo, an áit arb as do mo thuismitheoirí. D'fhanainn i mBaile Uí Fhiacháin is tá cuimhní iontacha agam ar bheith thíos san iarthar le mo ghaolta ag baint taitnimh as an fharraige is an tuath. Is é ceann de na nithe iontacha faoi chur fút i mBaile Átha Cliath Thiar ná an sármheascán de chontaethe agus de thíortha a chónaíonn anseo agus a fhágann gur áit ar leith é le hionadaíocht a dhéanamh thar a cheann, ach fós a bhronnann ghné iomaíoch chuile bhliain ar chomhraite faoi cén contae a bhuafas an Chraobh Uile-Éireann.

I regularly went to Mayo where both my parents are from. I stayed in Newport and have great memories being down the west with my relations and enjoying the sea and countryside. One of the great things about living in Dublin West is the great mix of counties and countries of people who live here which makes it a special place to represent but also brings a competitive dimension to discussions about who’ll win the next All Ireland every year.

5. Daire U8 Boys: Cad é an scannán is fearr leat? What’s your favourite movie?

Tá sé deacair go leor rogha scannán a ainmniú ach is dócha gurb e "Shawshank Redemption" mo rogha, mar go léiríonn sé, má chreideann tú an idéal agus má oibríonn tú faoina chomhair, gur féidir an sprioc a bhaint amach i ndeireadh báire.

It’s difficult to pick a favourite film but I suppose the “Shawshank Redemption” is my choice, because it highlights that if you believe in an ideal and you work towards it, you will achieve your goal at the end.

The Club would like to thank Jack for taking time out of his busy schedule to participate in the Questions & Answers session and to the juvenile members for their excellent questions.

Best wishes for St. Patrick’s Day to all club members and their families at home and abroad.
