League Sunday - Hurling Weekend Review!   25/02/2018

3 from 3 for our adult hurlers in the opening league Sunday of the season!

In AHL 1, our Senior team defeated St Judes 1-15 to 1-14 on the grass in Russell Park. A first half James O'Connell goal gave the home side a slender 1-04 to 0-06 advantage at half time. With Aodhan McInerney excelling from placed balls and with Derry Murphy and Johnny McGuirk also adding to the scoreboard, Brigids moved 2 clear before a Judes goal with 5 mins left threw a cat amongst the pigeons! Undeterred, Brigids almost immediately levelled before McInerney sealed the win with the games decisive score on 59 minutes.

In AHL4, our Inter Hurlers fought back from 8 points down at half time to beat Ballyboden 2-13 to 1-14 also on the grass in Russell Park. The lads began brightly in the first half with Eoin Thynne scoring a fine individual goal after he collected the sliotar on the '45 before beating his man and blasting to the net. Playing against a strong breeze, the lads were second best for the remainder of the half as 'Boden scored some excellent points to move 1-11 to 1-03 clear at half time. The home side emerged a different outfit in the second period, however, and five points in a row from Kieran O'Sullivan (3), Jamie Winters and JP Costigan had the margin back to 3 with 15 minutes left.
Costigan claimed Brigids second goal after some trademark donkey work from centre-forward Dave Kennedy and two O'Sullivan pointed frees gave Brigids a fine 2-13 to 1-14 comeback win.

In AHL7, our Junior Hurlers made it 3 from 3 with a one point win over Na Gaeil Oga. Tim O'Leary's men trailed 1-04 to 0-03 at half time with Sean Breslin's fine score on the stroke of half time keeping the home side within touching distance.
It was Brigids strong bench that turned the tide, however, as half time substitute Conor Timoney first act was to field a high ball over his man before blasting to the net! Timoney added a point moments later to draw proceedings level. The game then swung back in Na Gaeil Oga's favour before Brigids second goal from Colm Hawkes pushed the Russell Park men 2 clear.

By the 58th minute, Na Gaeil Oga had drawn level again but cometh the hour, cometh the man as a well worked team move ended with Brendan 'Badger' O'Halloran swinging over the winning score from the '45. Well done to all three teams on a fine start to the 2018 season.
